Supportive council

Dover District Council is committed to growing the local economy to attract jobs and opportunities for residents and businesses – including disruptors, innovators and entrepreneurs – now and into the future.

In recent years the district council has invested in major attractions such as Dover’s Maison Dieu and the Roman Painted House, recognising the importance of tourism and the growing creative and cultural sectors.

The Dover Beacon project, due for completion in 2026, will be the latest. It will provide new training opportunities for the creative and digital industries and incubator space for the next generation of entrepreneurs and creatives. There’s already a new energy in the district and there’s a lot more to come.

The district council, in its Local Plan to 2040, outlines a vision for a prosperous and diverse local economy, harnessing the world class potential of the Port of Dover and Discovery Park and building upon the key sectors of life sciences, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and logistics, digital, creative and cultural development, tourism and the visitor economy.

Dover District Council works closely with business support organisations such as Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, Visit Kent,  Locate in Kent and Growing Kent and Medway to support businesses looking to locate or grow in the district.
