Young entrepreneurs explore newly launched Startup Zone at Discovery Park

Young entrepreneurs and small startup businesses turned up to explore the newly launched StartUp Zone at Discovery Park yesterday (Tuesday, 4 November 2014).

The new zone at the science and technology park offers affordable office work space - from a simple desk, to a bank of desks and also includes one and two person offices, with benefits including free Wi-Fi, shared breakout areas, print service facilities and the opportunity to join the community of tenants already at the site.

Charlie Creed, owner of Forex Trading, a company that invests money in foreign exchange markets, already has a one-person office in the StartUp Zone. He said, “I started my business from home but I kept getting distracted. It’s a good package for me because I get to use all of the facilities and the Internet is so much faster here. I’m also surrounded by international companies, so there are lots of opportunities to network.”

Edward Sparks, co-owner of coffee app KoolBeans, lives locally and is looking for office space for his startup company. “There is nowhere like this in this part of the country and it is a great opportunity to work in a co-working environment.”

Representatives from NatWest bank were on hand throughout the day to offer budding entrepreneurs and startup companies valuable financial advice and to talk through the range of packages that are available to them.

Anna Stone, leasing manager at Discovery Park, said, “It’s great to see so many startup companies and entrepreneurs looking at the new zone and talking to the other tenants on site. We are delighted to be able to offer a flexible, cost effective option for small companies that are looking to interact with other startups, expand their network and become a part of our community.”

Chris West, Business Development Manager at Canterbury City Council, who attended the launch, commented on the business opportunities available on the site, “It’s a great stepping stone for small businesses. There are lots of benefits of working in an Innovation Hub like Discovery Park.”
