Preparatory works underway for St James’s development
Key works in readiness for the redevelopment of the St James’s area of Dover are underway as Dover District Council prepares to take full ownership of the site in early July. Last weekend saw the removal of telecommunications equipment from the roof of Burlington House.
A 16-week archaeological excavation by the Canterbury Archaeological Trust is underway at Woolcomber Street, which will be the location of a new 108-bed Travelodge hotel. Members of the public can view the excavations which are the most extensive in Dover for over 20 years.
Construction of the Travelodge hotel and a six-screen Cineworld multiplex is due to commence in October 2015. Further details of the indicative development programme can be found here.
Contractor, DDS Demolition, is setting up a works compound on the former Stagecoach site with demolition of the multi-storey car park expected to commence in July.
Construction of eight new retail units on Townwall Street (Block A), ranging in size from 465m² to 1,486m² is expected to start in Spring 2016. M&S and Next will trade from this block and three further units are currently under offer.
