Dover’s global school plans for future investment
One of the oldest schools in Dover is working on an ambitious masterplan to grow student numbers, advance its exceptional offering and develop new student and community facilities as it prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2021. Dover College has appointed Clague LLP as lead consultants for ‘Project 150’ which includes proposals for a new performing arts theatre.
Based in the heart of Dover since 1871, Dover College has over 300 pupils on roll, including 100 boarders. The school has a strong international reputation and typically has around 30 different nationalities, attracting students from as far afield as Asia and South America. It offers a strong academic and pastoral experience in the historical setting of the former St Martin’s Priory, just an hour by train from London.
Famous alumni of Dover College include international politicians, entrepreneurs, military personnel, and leading figures from the arts and culture. TV personality, Simon Cowell, is a former pupil!
Gareth Doodes, Headmaster of Dover College, said: “We’ve been part of the Dover community for 145 years. We’re excited to see what’s happening in Dover and want to grow with the town. Our ‘Project 150’ will see us investing in new facilities, growing our student numbers and expanding the outstanding opportunities we can provide.”
Tim Ingleton, Head of Inward Investment at Dover District Council, said: “Dover College has been promoting Dover on the global stage for many years. We look forward to working with Gareth and his team to realise their ambitions for Dover.”
Dover College is always delighted to welcome any interested prospective parents and students to come and see the school, and to discuss the range of outstanding opportunities that are available from its Nursery to its Sixth Form. Personal tours and taster days are also available, as well as scholarships and means-tested bursaries.
