Lidl to hold public consultation for new Dover store

Lidl UK has announced that it will be holding a public consultation day to outline plans for its new store on Whitfield Business Park in Dover.

Local residents and the wider community are invited to attend the event, which will take place from 10am until 7pm on 12th July in St Mary’s Parish Centre. Lidl’s dedicated property team will be on hand to outline the supermarkets plans for a new store and answer any questions from the local community.

The supermarket revealed earlier this year that it wants to open a brand new store in Dover, as part of its ongoing expansion ambitions within the UK.

The multi-million pound investment, will see Lidl commit to building a sustainable 2,760m² store on the 12,130m² site, with plans to create up to 40 new jobs. The supermarket will boast state of the art facilities including an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Jason Gratton, commented: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a Lidl in Dover and serving our fresh, quality and incredibly good value produce which shoppers across the country have come to love. We look forward to welcoming anyone along to the public consultation day and showcasing our plans whilst answering any questions.”

The family supermarket has experienced continued growth over the years, as consumers flock to the shop to discover products ranging from quality British fruit and vegetables to premiums wines from its much coveted Wine Cellar collections. Lidl’s success shows no signs of slowing, as the latest Kantar Worldpanel results outline its continued growth and market share high of 4.4%.

The planned store in Dover will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 630, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see this increase to 1,500 stores in the future.

The company hopes to submit a planning application in July and those who wish to share any feedback on the plans can do so at www.dover.lidl.co.uk.
