Virgin Voyages set course for Dover!

Dover-based Viking Maritime Group selected as official global recruitment and training partner

The iconic Virgin brand has chosen a true British icon – the White Cliffs of Dover – to showcase its foray into the cruise market.  Dover will be the first port-of-call for Virgin Voyages’ new cruise ship, ‘Scarlet Lady’ when it calls at the Port of Dover in February 2020 enroute to Liverpool and then its home port in Miami, USA.  And there's good news for Dover-based Viking Maritime Group who will be handling recruitment and training for Virgin Voyages in the UK.

Tom McAlpin, President and CEO of Virgin Voyages, said: “There is a great awareness of the Virgin brand in the UK but not so much the cruise venture so what better place to debut the Virgin Voyages brand in the UK than the amazing White Cliffs of Dover, which will look good with a touch of red, and in Liverpool, which has such a historic association with British music.”

Scarlet Lady is currently under construction at the Fincantieri yard in Italy.  Virgin Voyages has three further cruise ships on order.

Dover-based Viking Maritime Group (formerly Viking Recruitment) is also celebrating following its selection as an official global recruitment and training partner for Virgin Voyages.

Matthew Jaenicke, Group Managing Director of Viking Maritime, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Virgin Voyages on what will be the industry’s hottest jobs.  This is going to be the cruise ship that everyone wants to work on!  It’s fantastic news that Scarlet Lady will be showcased here in Dover."

Sonia Limbrick, Head of Cruise at the Port of Dover said: "We are incredibly excited to be welcoming Scarlet Lady here for her first ever preview. Set amongst the wonderful backdrop of the White Cliffs (now maybe with a splash of red) and Dover Castle, the Port will undoubtedly give her the first class welcome she deserves."

Barbara Buczek, Chief Commercial Officer at the Port of Dover added: "We are absolutely thrilled to be working work with Virgin Voyages team, who are definitely making waves in the cruise industry. It’s fantastic to see their rebellious approach to creating a unique offer and we are delighted to be part of this extraordinary journey.”
