Retail Rate Relief

There was some good news for small businesses on the high street in last week's Autumn Statement.  Retail rate relief is to be increased from £1,000 to £1,500 from April 2015.  To qualify, the retail property should be occupied, have a rateable value of £50,000 or less, and be used wholly or mainly as a shop, restaurant, café or pub.

Expansion East Kent Small Business Boost

The Small Business Boost is part of the Expansion East Kent Regional Growth Fund. Specifically designed to support small businesses, it offers 0% interest loans for between £2,000 and £50,000 for new start-ups (trading for less than 6 years), small businesses (less than 50 employees), and social enterprises, seeking to develop new or expand existing products and services.

Start Up Loans – Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce

The Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce is helping people in Kent to realise their entrepreneurial ambitions with low interest loans of up to £15,000.  Support is available for those aged over 18 with pre-start or early start (less than 24 months old) business ideas.  Successful applicants will also receive free monthly mentoring and skills training for a full year.

Growth Vouchers

Are you a small business (49 employees of less) in need of finance for strategic business advice in areas such as IT, sales, marketing, accounting, management or HR? Growth Vouchers is a Government scheme that can pay for up to half of the cost of business advice. For example, if professional advice costs you £4,000 you can claim £2,000 in Growth Vouchers. Growth Vouchers are available for small businesses in the Dover district until March 2015.

Low Carbon Workspaces

Want to make your SME (less than 250 employees) more energy efficient? Low Carbon Workspaces helps SMEs to reduce energy use by offering match funded grants up to £5,000 to help pay for the installation of energy efficiency solutions. This could include energy efficient lighting, cavity and solid wall insulation, efficient boilers, waste heat recovery and double glazing. Grants are available for SMEs throughout the Dover district.
