Global company Cummins relocates 200-strong team to Discovery Park

Global power solutions provider, Cummins, has joined one of the UK’s fastest-growing communities of life science and technology specialists at Discovery Park in Kent. Cummins has relocated 200 staff from its former base in Manston to state-of-the-art offices within Discovery Park’s 220-acre site at Sandwich.

Cummins products are sold in more than 190 countries worldwide and engineering teams at the Kent facility are working with colleagues globally on design and innovation solutions, including hydrogen and low and zero carbon power sources, which are used to power hospitals, schools, marine vessels, buses and trucks.

The power-generation and storage leader has taken 16,500 sq ft of office space and purpose-built engineering labs and has incorporated a number of employee wellness features within their offices, including social hubs with agile seating, treadmill desks and collaborative spaces.  An innovative virtual reality suite will also allow for real-time ideas sharing and product testing with international colleagues.

Cummins’ move into Discovery Park, home to tenant companies including Pfizer, Viatris and Concept Life Sciences, comes as the Park has witnessed a surge in demand, with its recent announcement that 45 new tenants will take up space by the end of 2021.

Adam Sidders, Global Marketing Communications Director, Cummins, said: “It was vital to have the right environment for business and innovation and to be a part of a thriving community and nowhere else could match Discovery Park.

“Moving here opens doors for us to collaborate with other tenants in order to make a bigger difference and the wide array of amenities available on site are also an added bonus for our employees.

“We look forward to returning to the office soon and getting the most out of the space for our site-based and hybrid employees.”

Mayer Schreiber, CEO, Discovery Park in Kent, said: “Cummins is a global player with focus on research and development and is an exciting addition to the world-class innovation that is already being carried out at Discovery Park, at a time when demand for science and technology discoveries is huge and growing rapidly.”

During COP26 Cummins became one of 45 inaugural recipients of the Terra Carta Seal, which recognises businesses for their commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonisation.
